Nice to meet you!

I am a book & stationery obsessed school counselor living in central Connecticut with my partner and my adorable and slightly unhinged pit-mix, Lexie. I adore bonding over a shared love of 5 star reads and finding the perfect pen.
I'm Danielle!

 Happy Friday!

This will be a semi-regular wrap-up series of small things that have been bringing me a dose of serotonin. In my work as a school counselor, my day can be incredibly draining and emotionally taxing. This is my first year, so I’m attempting to proactively care for my mental state by continuing the things that bring me happiness, that separate me as a person from my career in a school. Like journaling, traveling, and writing this newsletter.

My word of the year is JOY, so I’m trying to notice the little things (because ultimately, the little things are the big things). I hope you enjoy and please let me know what micro-moment brought you some joy recently!

📚 BOOKS

I finished The Box In The Woods this week so I get to add it to my quarterly reading wrap-up, which I will post at the end of March! I will read anything Maureen Johnson writes and I am just so obsessed with the Truly Devious series. More of a review on this coming in that future post.

Just started Patricia Wants to Cuddle and the Bachelor references (all of which I understand because I was a dedicated follower of that hot garbage franchise since college) are absolutely slaying me. Also, this might just have one of the best covers of any book I own right now. It is described as a “Bigfoot-Lesbian-Romcom-Mystery-Horror” and I cannot wait to dive further into that insanity.

Checked out Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult on Libby and downloaded it to my Kindle, so we shall see if I get around to starting that this week!

🎵 TUNES

Two songs I’ve been obsessed with this week:

1. Ms. Jones by Sidney Bird — I am a huge fan of Daisy Jones & the Six (the book, have not watched the show yet!) and this song perfectly captures Daisy’s essence, plus I love this singers voice.

2. Wild Wild Woman by Your Smith — *I tried to keep her quiet but she’s screamin’ inside of me*… just a feel good vibe that is kind of perfect for International Women’s Month.

🍴FOOD+BEV

  • Annie’s white cheddar mac & cheese, always

  • This vegan pasta bake that MAY have given me diarrhea, but it was just so good that I continued to eat leftovers for three more days *cries*

  • Bonne Maman four fruit preserves can really elevate your basic pb&j

🙉 MISCELLANEOUS

  • I am seven episodes into The Perfect Match and it is absolutely sick how much joy this vapid show brings me. Also, Team Dom 4ever.

  • Our sweet pup Lexie is apparently old enough for a big girl dog bed and doesn’t need to sleep on top of my torso horizontally in the dead center of our king sized bed every night! 🥹

  • My dance studio began our competition season and I was SO incredibly proud of the way our dancers performed and how hard they have worked. They had a fabulous first competition!

  • I ordered more Zebra Sarasa gel pens because I am out of control. However, these are the 0.7 tip and I really wanted the 0.5… tragic. 0.3 is great for small handwriting/captions and 0.7 packs a bold punch but 0.5 just HITS that sweet spot. Ugh. I’m going to New York City this weekend and I will be hitting up Kinokuniya (a dangerous place) for all my journaling obsessed needs so I’ll definitely be re-stocking on some essential pens while I’m there.

I hope you were able to notice some small good things this week. Until next time!
